Staffing Concept

It is a truth that human resource is one of the greatest resources for every organization because, in any organization, all other resources like money, material, machine, etc. can be utilized effectively and efficiently by the positive efforts of human resource.

Therefore, every person needs to get the right position in the organization to get the right job—according to their ability, talent, aptitude, and specializations.

This can help the organization properly achieve its pre-set goals with the 100% contribution of manpower. Thus, it can be said that staffing is an essential function of every business organization.

Why Is Staffing So Important?

The importance of the staffing function stems from its relationship with other functions. After all, without people or personnel, organisations are empty entities that cannot move a bit in the achievement of their objectives.

The functions of planning, organising, direction, and control become non-starters without managers and other members of the organisation.

The effectiveness of the other managerial functions also depends on the efficiency with which the staffing function is done. An organisation that is in a position to hire, retain, and develop the right quality of people to fill a position can take full advantage of growth opportunities.

Furthermore, an organization is strong to the extent that its members are strong in their abilities, skills, and efforts to do things and to get things done.

The Role of Staffing in Organizations

It’s a well-recognised fact that all the physical, financial, and other resources of the organisation have to be efficiently allocated and utilised by managers and its other staff.

The staffing function effectively takes care of the need for building a sound organisation. Organisations can greatly differ in the quality and competence of their members. This reality is to be traced to the staffing function.

The staffing function injects life and action into an organisation and makes its functioning possible.

Some organisations may somehow be able to attract the right talent because of factors such as:

  • high remuneration
  • perquisites
  • security of tenure

But the talent so attracted has to be properly preserved and developed through the staffing function. Otherwise, human assets can quickly turn into liabilities and burdens on the organisation.

Benefits of Good Staffing

Here are some clear benefits of effective staffing:

● Right People, Right Job, Right Time

The function of staffing enables the manager to find out how many workers are required—and with what qualifications and experience.

● Improved Organisational Productivity

Through proper selection, the organisation gets quality workers. Through proper training, the performance level of the workers can be significantly improved.

● Job Satisfaction and High Morale

It helps in providing job satisfaction to the employees by keeping their morale high.

With proper training and development programmes, their efficiency improves and they feel assured of their career advancements.

● Harmony in the Organisation

Staffing maintains harmony in the organisation.

Through proper staffing:

  • Individuals are not just recruited and selected,
  • Their performance is regularly appraised,
  • Promotions are made on merit.

For all these, certain rules are made and duly communicated to all concerned. This fosters harmony and peace in the organisation.
